Fantasy and Paranormal Romance Author
He looks down at Cait, lightly running his fingertip across her cheek. Her skin is soft beneath his touch, delicate and beautiful. She stirs against him at the small contact, murmuring contentedly and nestling closer to his side.
Pain moves through him, like an ache burrowing deep into his chest that somehow brings joy too. It’s so foreign to him, that feeling. He doesn’t want to name it. Doesn’t want to admit what it means. And that knowledge doesn’t make the pain go away.
Love.
He pulls his hand away with effort. Four little letters. One little word that all of his kind view as a joke, and it’s taken him whole. Stolen his heart before he could save himself and claimed him utterly, till he doesn’t want an escape.
If he’s honest with himself, he never did. Not from her.
And now I’m one of them.
I never expected my boring, regular life to change on a night out with my best friend. I only thought I was going to celebrate her birthday at a local club, not end up in a hospital after witnessing supernatural events that couldn’t possibly be real.
Talk about being wrong.
Now I’ve drawn the attention of the most dangerous forces in the demon world. I’m being stalked by a guy who can be in multiple places at once. I’m overwhelmed by a hunger I can’t shake—an impossible hunger that compels me to feed off the sexual energy of others, even if it might make me kill somebody. I am losing control and entering a secret world that exists in the shadows of my own—a world filled with vampires, werewolves, and demons who look just like anyone else.
The night was supposed to be simple. Normal. After all, I thought I was human and my life thus far has been unbelievably ordinary.
Now it’s anything but.
Metal flashes at the corner of my eye and then a burst of sound shatters the world.
The guy lurches hard. Something wet splatters my face. He sags to the ground.
I can’t breathe. Can’t move.
“Much better.”
My mouth opens, but no sound emerges. Blood is seeping from beneath the guy, staining his green t-shirt and spreading across the concrete to encroach on his hair—which is rust-colored, I realize, not brown like I’d thought. My mistake.
I can’t take my eyes from him.
“Alright, then,” Kyle says.
“Wha…” I don’t recognize my own voice. “What—”
“Oh, he wouldn’t have made it. Humans die from shadow-crossing unprotected, even without being shoved past all the defenses around that roach motel where you were hiding.” He chuckles. “So how ya been, Cait?”
I want to scream.
Kyle sighs. “Get her up, would you? This is pathetic.”
Hands grab me and haul me upright. My wide eyes manage to turn from the guy on the ground to the man holding me. He’s got to weigh three hundred pounds and he’s easily a foot taller than I am, with a snake tattooed in strangely metallic ink on his neck. Other people surround us, a dozen at least. They regard me expressionlessly while one of them tucks a gun away beneath his jacket.
I look back toward Kyle. He’s still grinning like this is some great joke.
Reality is creeping back, though. Awareness of my body and the space around me. And with it comes rage. Cold, burning rage.
“What do you want?” I growl.
“Oh, look at that. She’s being brave now.” Kyle smirks. “We want your help, Cait. Don’t you remember?”
“I don’t work for fucking Linden. Get that through your head, asshole.”
Kyle makes a dismissive gesture. “Yeah, yeah, we figured that out. But that doesn’t change much for Josephine’s little girl, now does it?”

Now it’s anything but.
Amar’s hand comes up, gently brushing a strand of hair from my face, and in spite of everything, tension leaks from me at the soothing sensation.
“It’s going to be okay,” he assures me softly, and a bit desperately.
I nod, wanting to believe the words.
His fingers slip toward my shoulders and tease along the edge of my shirt at my neck. My skin seems to wake up at the contact, little shivers tingling through me like silent pleas for him to continue.
Silent pleas for him to give me anything else to think about right now.
I turn to him. Amar is watching me and at the look in his eyes, the shivers grow stronger. Warmer, like heat is spreading from his touch down to my core. My own gaze drops almost in desperation to escape it, but my focus only lands on his incredible lips and stops there, trapped.
He comes closer. His lips brush mine once, twice, and then they part and nip at my own, urging me to open to him. I do, needing his heat, his taste. His mouth moves with mine while his hands slip down to the bottom of my shirt, slip beneath it. A short breath leaves me at the feeling of his fingertips against my skin.
Gently, he pulls my shirt up. I break from him, frustration twisting through me at being forced to stop kissing him, but I also want him to touch more of me. I lift my arms. The fabric blocks my view of him for the moment it takes him to draw the shirt over my head. He drops the shirt to the carpet. My skin prickles at the cool touch of the air.
His gaze roams over me, over my breasts still held in the pale satin of my bra, before returning to my eyes. There’s a desperate look to him. A hunger that matches my own. He moves toward me again.
But I want something to look at too.
And now I’m one of them.
